Muhammad bin Salih-Al-Shabi se rivayat hai ki Kaba sharif ki taamir se pahle banu ismaeel *hazrat ibrahim Alaihi salam ko aag mein dale jaane ke waqiye* se tarikh ka hisab rakhte they , phir jab isameel Alaihi salam aur ibrahim Alaihi salam ne kaba ko bana liya to ismaeel alaihi salam *taameer e kaba se* tarikh ka hisab rakhne lage, banu ismaee mein se jo log tahama mein rah jate they wo tahama se khuruj ke din se tarikh ka hisab lagate they ye tareeqa kaab bin luyee ki maut tak jari raha uske baad bani isameel ne waqiya feel se kaab ki maut tak tarikh muqarrar ki aur phir *waqiya feel* ke baad us se tarikh ka shumar hone laga , ye tareeqa hazrat umar radi allahu anhu ke zamane tak jari raha phir unhone 17 hijri ya 18 hijri mein *waqiya e hijrat* se tarikh muqarrar ki.

Said bin Al-Musayyab Radi Allahu anhu se rivayat hai ki Hazrat Umar bin khattab Radi Alahu anhu ne sabko jama kiya aur pucha ki kis din se tarikh likhi jaye ? *Hazrat Ali Radi Allahu anhu ne mashwara diya* ki jis roz se Rasool-Allah Sal-Alalahu alaihi wasallam ne hijrat farmayee aur sir zameen e shirk ko alvida kaha , Hazrat umar radi allahu anhu ne is mashware ko Qubul kar liya

Ali b. Mujahid-Muhammad b. Ishaq-al-Zuhri and Muhammad bin Salih-Al-Shabi: The children of Ishmael dated from the fire of Abraham until the building of the Kabah, when Abraham and Ishmael built it. Then they dated from the building of the Kabah until they dispersed, and every time a people departed from Tihamah they dated from their departure. Those of the descendantsof Ishmael who remained in Tihamah dated from the departure from Tihamah of Sad, Nahd,

and Juhaynah, the sons of Zayd, until Kab b. Lu'ayy died; then they dated from his death until the Year of the Elephant. After that they dated from the Elephant until 'Umar b. al-Khattab established the era of the hijrah.

This was in the year 17 or 18 (A.D. 638 or 639).

Said bin Al-Musayyab: Umar bin al-Khattab Radi Allahu anhu assembled the people and asked them, "From what day shall we begin our dating?" 'Ali Radi Allahu anhu said, From the day on which the Messenger of God emigrated and abandoned the land of polytheism." 'Umar followed this advice.
