Sunan Abu Dawud, Jild 1,1320-Sahih

✦ Abu Musa radi Allahu Anhu se rivayat hai ki Rasool-Allah Sal-Allahu Alaihi Wasallam ne farmaya us momeen ki misal jo Quran padhta hai aur us par amal bhi  karta hai meethe leemu (citron) ki tarah hai jiska maza bhi bahut achcha aur khushbu bhi achchi hoti,

Aur wo momeen jo Quran nahi padhta lekin us par amal karta hai uski misal khajur(date) ki tarah hai jiska maza to bahut achcha hota hai lekin khushbu nahi  hoti, Aur us munafiq ki misal jo Quran padhta hai Raihana (sweet basil) ke jaisee hai jiski khushboo to achchi hoti hai lekin maza kadwa hota hai Aur us munafiq ki misal jo Quran bhi nahi padhta andrayeen(colocynth) ke phal ki tarah hai jiska maza bhi kadwa aur boo bhi kharab hoti hai

✦ The example of the person who recites the Qur'an

✦ Narrated Abu Musa radi Allahu Anhu The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The example of a believer who recites the Qur'an and acts on it, like a citron which tastes nice and smells nice. And the example of a believer who does not recite the Qur'an but acts on it, is like a date which tastes good but has no smell. And the example of a hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like a Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is like a colocynth which tastes bitter and has a bad smell."

✦ Narrated Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani The Prophet (ﷺ) said: One who recites the Qur'an in a loud voice is like one who gives alms openly; and one who recites the Qur'an quietly is one who gives alms secretly.
