Tafsir Ibn kathir: Momeeno ne jab kafiro ke lashkar ko dekha to kahne lage ki inhi par fateh ki khushkhabri humko di gayee thi aur inki shikst ka humse wada hua hai aur wada bhi Allah aur uske Rasool Sallallahu alaihi wasallam ka, Ibn abbas radi allahu anhu kahte hain ki is se murad wo khushkhabri hai jo pahle (surah baqra mein) di gayee thi ki..(Al Quran : Kya tum ye khayal karte ho ki Jannat mein dakhil ho jaoge halanki tumhe wo (halat) pesh nahi aaye jo un logon ko pesh aaye jo tumse pahley ho guzre hain unhe sakhti aur takleef pahunchi aur hila diye gaye yahan tak ki Rasool aur jo uske saath imaan laye they bol uthe ki Allah ki madad kab aayegi, suno beshak Allah ki madad kareeb hai 2:214)
momene kahne lage ye sirf ek imtihan hai agar hum yaha sabit qadam rahe to Allah humko jarur fateh ata farmayega.

And when the believers saw Al-Ahzab (the Confederates in the battle of trench / Ahzab), they said: "This is what Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had promised us; and Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had spoken the truth. And it increased them only in
faith and submissiveness (to Allah).

Explanation : Ibn Abbas radi allahu anhuma said: "They mean what Allah said in Surat Al-Baqarah: (Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and
those who believed along with him said,"When (will come) the help of Allah'' Yes! Certainly, the help of Allah is near!)(2:214) meaning, this is the trial and test that Allah and His Messenger promised us would be followed by the help and victory of Allah that is near.'
