Hazrat Umar ne ye tehreer farmayee hamare aur unke darmiyan faisla kun hai iss ka matlab ye hai ke tum sharab peene se baaz aa jao iss par musalman jama huye aur unhone ye faisla kiya ke inhein Assi (80) kode mare jaye aur jo koi ss qism ki taweel karen aur munkar ho to usay qatl kar diya jaye
Us mamle mein hazrat Umar ne Hazrat Abu Ubaidha ko ye khat bheja innhein assi (80) kode maare jaye Hazrat Ubaydha ne innhein bula bheja aur unse logo ke samne pucha to unhone kaha sharab haram hai iss par unmein se har ek ko assi (80) kode mare gayee aur apne israr par bahut gamnak huye Aap ne unse kaha Eh Ahle Shaam tumare mulk mein bahut bada hadsa namudar hoga aur uske baad Qahat (sukha) nazil ho gaya

Abu 'Ubaydah Radi Allahu Anhu wrote to 'Umar Radi Allahu Anhu ,Several Muslims have taken to-drinking wine . Among them are Zirar and Abu Jandal Radi Allahu Anhuma. We asked them about this, but they justified their act with a dictum, saying, "We have been given the choice, and so we have chosen." Then someone said to us, "
(Do you not remember the verse)
*فهَلْ أنتُم ُّ منتهُونَ*
'Will you refrain'? (5:91)
But that man did not forbid us to drink wine in so many words." Then 'Umar wrote to Abu'Ubaydah, "This matter is purely between them and me. The Qur'anic expression 'Will you refrain?' means nothing but 'Stop that practice."' Then he assembled the people and they all agreed that those who had drunk wine should be given eighty lashes for it, and that they would be held accountable for a 'transgression. They also agreed that all those who adduced the same dictum to justify their wine drinking should be dealt with in the same manner. If anyone objected, he was to be killed.
'Umar wrote to Abu 'Ubaydah, "Summon all of them. If they claim that wine drinking is permissible, have them killed, and if they claim that it is forbidden, have them flogged with eighty stripes." So Abu 'Ubaydah sent for them and interrogated them in front of all the people. "It is forbidden," they answered. Thereupon he ordered that each one of them be given eighty lashes. So the people who had sinned against this prohibition were to be punished and they repented of their pigheadedness. Then 'Umar said, "People of Syria, may something unexpected occur among you!" whereupon the Drought broke out.
